Brilliant article at fastcompany.com:
Creatives now need to behave more like improv actors - "story building" instead of storytelling - so they can respond in real time to an unpredictable audience. Marketing actually needs to be useful - "use-vertising" instead of advertising - which means that we all have to think more like product developers than entertainers.

Governments benefit from embracing new technologies to engage with citizens. With 45 million people registered on Twitter and 500 million on Facebook, social networking tools allow governments to reach out to large numbers of the public quickly and efficiently. Article about the benefits of public engagement in new technologies.

I am an award-winning professional in online (Milia d'Or in 1998), marketing mechanics and design. Worked as Creative Director for the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (the biggest european location for art and exhibitions), together with the Research Studios of Neville Brody (I learned a lot). End of the nineties accepted a contract for Lava, Hamburg, and iXL, one of the biggest internet design networks worldwide as Creative Director, Europe. After some other engagements, for public relations agencies, consulting agencies and other branches, today exclusively work for a worldwide operating biotech company as Creative Director.

With all collected experience in (international) marketing, design, and corporate branding, for Wrangler, Sarah Lee, Galeria Kaufhof, Toyota, and others, I am also engaged in projects for public schools, in a small publishing organization, and in research in social media. In those fields I managed projects from concept to completion and try to expand my knowledge in marketing mechanics, (website) design and development. Another strong interest is to develop the range of technical skills which are needed for this. My dreamjob: Caretaker for a public school or comparable institution.

Basic Knowledge about marketing and its mechanics is required to complete a design task. It is not a question of beauty. Design is not art.
The complete planning of channels and functions has to be ready before tactical activities start. Social media, online communities are the actual factors we have a lot to learn about. A bad product will never be brought to success by good marketing.
If function has to be cleared, a measurable result is expected. To bring clients to a website. To let them read an offer. To convince them to change behavior. It is a part. It is never the whole story.
Technical production is important, but it is a part. The understanding of the complete mechanical chain, in which the advertising product's lifecycle is to be organized is much longer: Are there accompanying factors, what happens in best case, what happens in worst case, can I trace success, when is everything delivered. Design is a process in a process.

Experienced in marketing mechanics and marketing communication. Wiki says: Marketing is the process by which companies determine what products or services may be of interest to customers, and the strategy to use in sales, communications and business development. It is an integrated process through which companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers in return. Marketing is used to identify the customer, to keep the customer, and to satisfy the customer.
Branding is sometimes confounded with logo design. Yes, there is a connection, but logo design is one of the most functionally limited illustration disciplines.
Webdesign is of much higher complexity from functional point of view, technically it is sometimes easier than print design is. One common misunderstanding: What is what? It is often based on confusion concerning the differentiation between information architecture, webdesign, html coding and programming, database programming and online marketing. I do not know one single person who is able to do this all.
Design and Text should try to be a weightless compound. Both need strong attention, and the conjunction of both does too.
The copmplete production chain includes people of professions like media artists, programmers, html code writers, preprint artists, photographers, usability experts. The management of those ressources and the precise weaving in the process is key part of the creative design process.
